On Monday night, February 15, 2021 a extreme cold front hit Overton County, TN causing an ice storm that knocked out power to around 14,000 customers in that county due to downed trees and limbs. Power company crews from other areas came to assist in restoring electricity. Heritage Academy has a strong working relationship with Putnam County emergency operations center that recommended them to the Overton County emergency operations center to help with work orders from the ice storm. Heritage Academy’s entire student body and staff responded to the town of Livingston, TN located near the school. Being near enough to the academy it was possible to hold classes by driving students to and from Livingston mornings and afternoons. They worked with a group called Inspiritus that managed the work orders for the county. Over a week and a half 40 families received help from Heritage Academy’s staff and students to clean up tons of downed trees and limbs around the people’s homes.
